Carly Dow

Genre: Contemporary Folk, Multi-Instrumentalist, Roots, Singer Songwriter, Storyteller

Carly Dow’s music will leave you charmed and haunted.  Her wildcrafted soul-folk blends inspiration from wordsmiths Gillian Welch and Amelia Curran, with an edge reminiscent of Neko Case. Dow’s dark and poignant writing” (Stylus) explores the complexities of human-to-human and human-to-nature relationships within grounded, connected and beautiful imagery.  The depth and space of her home province of Manitoba seep into her music as main influences, which is delivered with“an incomparable voice that is raw, alluring and unique”(VIES Mag).

Soft and sultry, pretty and gritty – these songs have it all.  “…it is Canadian music at its finest” (VIES Mag).

Ingrained, released in May 2015, is “a living, breathing album with sweeping arrangements…” (Stylus).  Love, loss, sensuality and environment are themes carefully crafted throughout the recordings, giving the album an authentic voice which “will leave a mark on the heart and soul of its listeners…” (VIES Mag).  Ingrained is Dow’s first solo studio recording and was co-produced herself along with Darwin Baker and Jesse Matas (Crooked Brothers) at Private Ear Recording in Winnipeg, MB and the historical log-built Visitor Centre in Riding Mountain National Park.  “It is no surprise that Ingrained graced the National top 10 Folk/Roots/Blues charts” (The Manitoban).

Dow has performed locally and nationally as a solo act, a duo, or with a band – giving her a rich and adaptable musical style.  Whether audiences are up dancing at a festival or listening in an intimate venue, the songs are full of movement and meaning. She has performed with the Winnipeg Folk Festival’s Young Performers Program on multiple occasions, the National Artist Program at the 2011 Canada Games, and at various other renowned venues and festivals in Manitoba and throughout the rest of Canada.

Accompanying Carly and hailing from Riding Mountain National Park (Manitoba), singer-songwriter/guitarist Logan McKillop has a tune for every change in the prairie sky. Logan has extensively toured across Canada not only as a solo act, but also as an accompanist for many prominent musicians within Manitoba’s folk/roots scene.
